Leader Of The Pack

My beautiful friend Callie sent me an email in October asking me if I wanted to be a part of a short film that she was going to be working on. The film happened to be Leader Of The Pack starring Danny Pudi of Community, Steven Weber of Wings, and Rachel Harris of The Hangover. Unfortunately they already had makeup covered so instead I was able to take over hair duties.

I had such a blast working on this project. Amazing cast and crew is a ridiculous understatement. Leader Of The Pack is one of the most professional short film sets I have ever worked on. Everyone was extremely friendly and pleasant to be around which is most important when you are working 12 hours straight every day! I enjoyed working with them so much that I also decided to team up with them for another short, Born Yesterday, that we just wrapped this weekend!

My job was super easy but had to keep an eye on Danny's curls and Steven's hair seemed to have a mind of it's own. Some professional stills and behind the scene shots are posted below. :)

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part One Red Carpet

Around this time last year I worked on a short film, Compromise, with brilliant actress, Layla Alizada. We had kept in touch a little over the year and a few weeks ago I got an email from her asking if I was available to do makeup for a premiere that her and her boyfriend were walking the red carpet on. Little did I know that it was for one of the biggest premieres of 2011 (at least to a twihard!) Noel Fisher, Layla's boyfriend, was cast as a Romanian vampire for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part Two and was invited to walk the red carpet for Part One.

Before the day of the event, Layla and I talked about what style and color her dress was going to be so I could think about makeup ideas that would complement her entire look. She wanted smoky eyes but not too over-the-top or dramatic and a semi-nude lip.

While I was applying her makeup we lamented the amount of time it takes for a guy to get ready versus the amount of time it takes for a girl to get ready. All Noel had to do was style his hair and get a touch of powder and he was ready to walk out the door!

The outcome for both was incredible and they looked fantastic on the carpet in front of the ridiculous amount of photographers. As always, pictures are posted below!

Agenda Magazine Face of the Month

Recently I have been working with Ash Gupta of 838 Media Group. I love working with him because every project is unique and memorable. Ash shoots the Face of the Month for Agenda Magazine's monthly online magazine.

The model this month, Nastassia Lindes, is British born but raised in Santa Monica, CA. She definitely has that cool UK look with a laid back California vibe. She was such a pleasure to work with and she was amazing in front of the camera. You can check out the article at the Agenda site. Hair and makeup done by yours truly. Pics below.

Alice in WENderland

Halloween is always a pretty busy time of the year for me. May I might add, it is also one of my most favorite times of the year as well. I love the creativity of the costumes and the makeup. It always amazes me when I walk down Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood Halloween night and see thousands of people dressed as all different kinds of characters.

One of my jobs this year had me teaming up with Jeffrey Paul and Aasiya Jones to makeover Chaz Dean of WEN and his assistant, family members, and friends. They were headed to a big party and wanted to dress up like the characters from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. I'm not going to lie, I was a tad anxious to get everyone done because if you've seen the movie you know that the makeup is pretty much the best part. I consider myself a perfectionist and this makeup HAD to be just as fantastic as the movie if not better.

To my relief, the makeup came out better than my wildest expectations. FOR ALL SIX CHARACTERS! I, myself, was in charge of the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts. Posted below are some pictures of the process and the final look.

Feast of the Foolish

Back in May a group of us went to Joshua Tree for the weekend to film the short, Feast of the Foolish. Elizabeth Stenson, who I have had the opportunity of working with on End Result, reached out to me to be a part of this amazing project.

The concept of the film left me a lot of creative freedom (a makeup artist's dream!!) so I pored over the script to come up with looks for the characters that I thought would enhance the integrity of the work. I was working double duty on both hair and makeup and was quite pleased with the final product. My creations and every moment experienced by the cast and crew were captured by two fantastic photographers, Sabina Padilla and Carlos Torres Garzon. A glimpse into my weekend spent in Joshua Tree are captured below.

The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety

A couple of months ago I had the most surprising honor to work with the cast and crew of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety. When I got the call to do the job, I thought it was interesting. A play about wrestling? How good could that actually be?

I then got to spend four days with the most amazing, sweet, and talented people that I've almost ever had the pleasure of working with. It was just one of those jobs where you never want it to end. But it did, and the final product came out AMAZING!

I was asked to come to the final dress rehearsal to check out the video montage portion of the play that I had worked on. My hand even made a cameo! (And if you've ever seen my creepy hands you would know how funny that is.) The show made me laugh, cry, think, and feel alive. In short, it was spectacular. I've attached some pictures from behind the scenes below.

Molly's Wedding!

Molly is a comedian in Los Angeles and we were introduced by our mutual friend, Mary Patterson, when she was looking for help with hair and makeup for her bridesmaids. A family friend who did hair and makeup and just so happened to work with the Beatles back in the day (!!!) was scheduled to assist Molly the day of her fabulous wedding. My assistant, Jenna Paris, and I had a great time getting to know the 5 ladies while we were helping them prepare for the ceremony. It was a beautiful spring wedding and I am so glad that I was able to be a part of such a special day!

Tough Enough

I am so lucky to have a lot of friends and family in the entertainment industry here in LA. That is how I was so fortunate to be involved in the photo shoot for Tough Enough earlier in the year when filming started. I can honestly say that before watching the show I was not a fan of neither reality shows OR wrestling. But after being involved with the amazing cast and crew, I fell in love with the concept of the show and started watching wrestling on a weekly basis with my roommate.

I was involved with doing all of the promo for the show when filming had just begun to start. I had the opportunity to work on Stone Cold Steve Austin, Trish Stratus, Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih, Michelle Deighton from America's Next Top Model Cycle 4, and many other awesome contestants. Makeup ranged from very natural to sexy, smokey eyes while hair remained polished. It was a real treat to see my work for the first time on national television! I hope to work with Tough Enough again for their second season on the USA network. You can check out the pictures from the shoot of the 14 contestants HERE.

Celia Finkelstein :: Horrible Bosses Premiere

At the beginning of the year I had the pleasure of meeting Tess Paras, PR guru for the amazing makeup brand Three Custom Color, for tea at La Conversation. She totally sold me on Three Custom Color foundation and their cheek and lip stains. If you can get your hands on these products, you definitely should. Make it a priority!!!

Tess then introduced me to Celia, she is featured in the new movie, Horrible Bosses, and needed help getting ready for her first red carpet premiere. I went to her house and she modeled dresses, shoes, and accessories. Each outfit required a different makeup look and we decided which would make the best impression for the first of many public appearances.

Celia decided on the cutest LBD and we thought that making a nice smokey eye with grays and blacks with some lashes on the end to open her eyes would be best. Flawless skin was next. A last minute addition, which is personally my favorite, was Three Custom Color's Lollipop lip stain. It was just the right hint of color. Karina Smirnoff Sportie LA Shoot

A few weeks ago, Boo from Sportie LA called and needed a last minute makeup artist to help assist a celebrity on a photo shoot to promote a new shoe line. I immediately said yes and the next day I found myself in Hollywood doing a guerrilla style shoot in a small park with Dancing With The Stars very own Karina Smirnoff.

Due to Karina's ridiculously busy schedule and the shortage of time, she already came with rollers in her hair (she says that saves her life!)

In no time at all I was able to let down her hair and touch up her makeup before she was letting her radiant personality shine through for the Sportie LA cameramen and videographers. During the middle of the shoot she even called in to be on Ryan Seacrest's radio show to talk about the new season of DWTS and her partner, Ralph Macchio! After the last pictures were taken and before she had to hurry back to the dance studio to practice, Karina taught some of the crew to do Michael Jackson's famous dance moves. WEN Haircare Photo Shoot

Chaz is a celebrity hair stylist and you can find him on QVC selling his amazing, natural hair products or in his Hollywood bungalow styled salon. The models were insanely gorgeous and their hair was completely to die for. Since all of the models were photographed topless, very simple makeup and tons of tattoo coverage were key for this day long shoot. If interested, you can check out the WEN products here. And as a sidenote, they've definitely helped restore my hair back to good health after all of the bleaching, dying, and straight ironing!

Miriam Engagement Session

I absolutely love doing work like this because you get to meet some of the coolest people and hear adorable stories about how they met their significant other and how he popped the question. Miriam and Jake were not an exception and I wish them both the very best for the future!

Since Miriam doesn't normally wear much makeup we kept the look very light. Almost to the point of where she doesn't look like she is actually wearing any at all. Through my career I've learned that most of the time the old adage "less is more" is usually spot on. Academy Awards: Mallika Sherawat

When I first started doing makeup in 2009 I had a few goals for my career. One of them was to do something that pertained to the Academy Awards. In 2010, I was a part of the Pre Oscar Fashion Show, a showcase with models in the industry and fashion designers who compete to win the position of trophy girl at the actual ceremony.

This year, I was fortunate enough to assist Jeffrey Paul on hair and makeup for the beautiful Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat. Over the past year I was able to meet and work with Mallika on a few different shoots. This day was different because yesterday Mallika would be making her grand Oscar debut.

A lot of thought, deliberation, and careful consideration went into choosing the right dress, accessories, hairstyle, and makeup look for this momentous occasion. After conversations between Jeffrey, Ivan Bitton (the stylist), the amazing seamstresses, and pretty much anyone who was in the room, we came to a collective decision that the stunning Mark Bouwer silver/grey dress would be perfection. And it was. Mallika looked absolutely radiant and was placed on several best dressed lists in today's news! Adam As Tina

So I should be and AM quite ashamed of myself for being so lazy and not posting anything in the past 4 months. I have been so lucky to work with so many amazing people since I've last posted and will make sure to catch you all up to speed.

One of my favorite holidays just passed and I had the most incredible opportunity to work some magic on a few clients this past weekend. One of them in particular came out so well that I knew that I just had to share it.

I met Adam last year at a party and through him I connected with one of my biggest mentors in my industry, Jeffrey Paul. For Halloween this year Adam was going as Tina Turner and needed help getting him to be the most perfect spitting image of the rock star. It was my first time doing drag makeup and I, personally, think the outcome was more than fantastic. Below are a few after shots because I couldn't just pick out one favorite. Hope you enjoy.

The lovely Christine Busler, who just happened to be the waitress in the commercial, decided to use this opportunity and model for him. She really is a striking girl. Ketel One Spec Commercial

Two weeks ago I was asked to join Heath Vinyard and his amazing crew to work on a spec commercial for Ketel One. We filmed in Tustin in the same complex where End Result was filmed. The shoot consisted of 3 beautiful and ridiculously hilarious girls. We all got along so famously that my stomach hurt from laughing so hard. Since the look is a dark bar/lounge on a Saturday night, I went for darker eyeshadows and long lashes. The video came out exceptionally well so check it out after the break!

Nisha Ali Studio Party

It's been almost a year since I met Nisha Ali on the set of her first dance studio commercial. I hit it off with her and her dancers so well that I have had the pleasure of working with them on several different occasions. One night in May, Nisha held her first showcase at her studio in West LA. I was there beforehand to help Nisha and the girls get ready before their big unveiling. The night consisted of great music, fantastic samosas, and a bar so full of wine that Nisha had to GIVE bottles away! It was a wonderful evening and I am so happy that I was asked to be a part of Nisha Ali's first studio party. Check out some pictures of Nisha with her dancers.

Melissa's Wedding

A couple of weeks ago, May 1 to be exact, I was in a hotel room at the Universal Sheraton laughing so hard that I was crying. I was helping Melissa, 3 bridesmaids, her mother and future mother in law get ready for one of the BIGGEST days of her life. I knew right off the bat that this was going to be an excellent day.

Melissa was wearing a custom made dress that was unlike any that I had seen before. To match the dress and overall "Hollywood" theme of the wedding, we decided to go for a very glamorous look with her makeup. Flawless skin and a slight cat eye did the trick. I am so thrilled and honored that I was a part of Melissa's wedding day. Below are some of my favorite pictures of her throughout the night.

Marina V Music Video

A couple of weeks ago, Niva Dorell, a director that I had worked with on a PSA last December called me to discuss doing makeup for a music video that she was shooting. The song is "You Make Me Beautiful" by Marina V and the concept was really great. Niva wanted Marina to be all dressed up in a party environment and eventually "strip down" to a more natural state on the beach while the sun was rising. In theory and on camera it was insanely gorgeous, in reality we were all absolutely tired and freezing! I had the chance to watch the new music video the other day, and I must say that I am quite impressed with Marina and her ability to push through the cold/hunger/sleep deprivation to look quite captivating on screen. I'm attaching some pictures that I took with my poor iPhone that night/morning (I saw the sun set AND rise without sleeping a wink!) as well as a link to the awesome video. Watch and enjoy!

Melissa's Engagement Shoot

My sister, Jordana, was hired to capture Melissa's engagement shoot and upcoming wedding and had seen my work on her blog. We emailed back and forth for a while discussing looks for her engagement pictures and finally met one beautiful Sunday afternoon when I was invited to her home to get her ready for the shoot! It's always interesting to go to someone's house that you have never met before, but Melissa and Jonathan took me in and treated me like they've known me for years. We instantly figured out that Jonathan and I are both alums of the University of Miami and had a great time discussing the ins and outs of the campus and south Miami in general.

Since Melissa doesn't wear too much makeup to begin with, we just wanted to create a very fresh and natural look that only added to her adorableness. As we all know, the camera "eats" so much makeup off so Melissa took it like a pro when I had to use more makeup than she would normally wear. I am SO excited that she hired me to help her on her wedding day in early May and can't wait to see how she looks in her stunning dress!

Amy's Wedding!

Unfortunately, I had to learn the extremely hard way that water and computers do not mix. I'd like to say that my waterlogged laptop is the reason that it has taken me so long to post pictures of Amy's exquisite wedding - but it's not. Luckily for me, March has been BOOMING and I have just been quite so busy that I have been neglecting you dedicated readers* (Hi Mom!)

Upwards and onwards! Amy and Larry were married at the beginning of the month and just so happened to kick off Jordana's long wedding season. To say the wedding was absolutely beautiful is quite an understatement. Candy buffets, flowers, and live painters galore!

Amy of the Relentless Bride hired me right out of makeup school to help on her engagement shoot that we did in the Malibu/Calabasas area. Months later (when did time start going by so fast??) we were gathered in a hotel room on the BIG day in Dana Point checking the weather every five minutes for drops of rain! She had a large wedding party so I brought along a colleague of mine, Lydia, to help get the girls ready in time. Needless to say, we had a fabulous time meeting all of the bridesmaids and the precious flower girls. Thank you so much, Amy, for letting me be a part of such a special day. You were down right gorgeous (even the bellhop told me he noticed your glow all week!) I hope it was everything you wanted and more! Pictures below.

2010 Pre Oscar Fashion Show

When I first moved to Hollywood I made myself a promise that I would be doing something...anything that involved being a part of the Oscars. This year, a week before the 2010 Oscars, I had the opportunity to work with Jeffrey Paul of Exclusive Artists Management at the pre-Oscar fashion show. The theme this year was "Designer's Challenge" where nine different designers were asked to design a gown for the Oscar's trophy girl.

During the fashion show, the model would wear a certain designer's dress and then the people were able to vote on which model and dress would be on stage for the entire show! I found out, along with everyone else, during the red carpet show that the winner was Jenna who was wearing a beautiful dress made with laser cut leather. The people from Oscar.com even captured the entire process on film and yours truly and her extremely blond hair make an appearance in the fourth episode! Nisha Ali Studios

I first met Nisha Ali when I was called to help them film their first commercial of her Bollywood dance troupe. Over the last couple of months I have had the pleasure of working with Nisha, Jill, Loni, Drew and the rest of the dancers on various performances around Los Angeles. A couple of weeks ago I was asked to join them at the House of Blues in West Hollywood for their performance at the AMEC awards show. The makeup done was keyed by Jeffrey Paul of Exclusive Artists Management and was created to reflect the glamour and excitement of the true Bollywood lifestyle. Below is my client, Loni, and the rest of the girls in the green room before their performance! End Result Web Series

Over the course of a few weekends in January, the End Result crew have been hard at work filming in empty parking lots, garages, and train stations. Basically, any place outdoors where the sounds of planes, trains, and automobiles make filming any take with sound the death of me. But who else to do it with than the ridiculously great cast and crew of End Result. Working with all of them makes it quite easy for a narcoleptic like me to wake up early on a Saturday morning and drive all the way to Tustin. The co-directors, Heath and James, let me stretch my creative muscles when coming up with ways to create bruises and cuts from being pistol whipped in the face to cutting pants to make room for a bloody gun shot straight to the leg. So, I thank you everyone at END RESULT for having me on your team. And getting Daphne's for craft services.

A Note To Etienne

Earlier this month I had the privilege to work with director Eli Benavidez on his short film, A Note To Etienne. The story is a fresh new look on what it is like to fall OUT of love. It is a beautiful account of how Amorette realized, in the middle of the night, that she still loved Etienne but had just fallen out of love with him. So, she sits down to record a note to him, a la the title A Note To Etienne. I was asked to join the crew after I had worked with Eli Benavidez and producer Allison Vanore on another project a few months ago called SOLO The Series, a sci fi comedy about a reality show astronaut stuck in space. The dream team crew they have is an absolute joy to work with and I was thrilled to be attached to another project with them. For Amorette's look, I had to make the exquisite Isabelle Giroux look as plain and quirky as could be. Think Audrey Tautou from the wonderful french film, Amelie. As for Etienne, making Lukas Delcourt look nerdy was proving a more difficult task than managing his shaggy head of hair! I absolutely can not WAIT to see the finished product and hope for the best as it hits the festival circuit! Check out some shots from the shoot below!

Sexy Time!

WOW! Well, I am quite ashamed at myself for taking so long to write a new post. But, this boudoir shoot done with my sister Jordana, deserves the attention of a spankin new post and will help cure my laziness so I can post all of the work that I have been doing in the past couple of months!

Crystal met Lara through Project Wedding and decided to do somewhat of a boudoir marathon one Sunday afternoon. Throw in Crystal's sister, Shaunna, myself and Jordana into the mix at The Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills and we had ourselves a party! The look we were going for was sexy chic and I believe we created just that. End Result Web Series

A couple of weeks ago I reached out to Heath Vinyard, co-creator of the End Result web series, via Twitter about becoming his new key makeup artist for the upcoming episodes. He twittered me back (how risque does THAT sound?!) and we got to talking business. A couple of days later I met up with the rest of the crew in Tustin and immediately hit it off with them. I can't say that I have had a better experience filming with complete strangers! Everyone was so friendly and accommodating and most importantly, wanting to make the best product for the end result (I know, I know...bad pun.) I think the best part was after doing Jamie Fishback's special effects makeup and watching him eat lunch with bruises and [fake] blood running down his face! When I thought I couldn't ask for more, Heath later recommended for the key makeup artist position on another web series that I will be posting about later! Raquel Valencia Test Shoot

Raquel and Nayeli both go to the same school in California but it took a chance meeting in Paris for them to get to know each other. Raquel is a budding photographer and wanted to do a test shoot before she headed back to France to study photography. We started with a natural look and built on that to culminate with a darker look complete with fun gold lashes left over from an almost-Halloween costume! We had a fabulous time playing and shooting in an igloo shaped structure that was built for the infamous Burning Man festival. I picked a few of the pictures to share with you below!

Jenae and Matt: Forever After

My roommate from sophomore year at University of Miami is from Santa Barbara. And if you have ever been there, you know how absolutely breathtakingly GORGEOUS it is. So, of course, I jumped at the opportunity to help Jenae and Matt of Matinae Design Studio get ready for their Forever After shoot. They were celebrating their anniversary at the same hotel they were married at the year before. Jenae and Matt were the sweetest couple, in fact, I don't think I have heard anyone laugh as much as Matt did. PS. they even brought me cupcakes! :)

Jenae wanted curls and glamour and when the Santa Barbara weather wanted her hair to be even curlier we just tied it into a beautiful bun that complemented her stunning handmade hair pieces. Social Hollywood

Earlier this week my sister Jordana Hazel and I were asked to do a photo shoot for some publicity materials for Social Hollywood. Jordana captured the AMAZING images, our new friend Miriam styled the delicious outfits, and I was in charge of the sexified hair and makeup. Christina, Jessica and Megan who all work as cocktail waitresses at Social Hollywood were so much fun to work with! Go for dinner and drinks and remember to tip your lovely waitressess really well! :)

There has been A LOT going on in my world. From moving to West Hollywood and having visitors (my absolute favorite!), I have been one busy little bee. This past week I have been able to help Sita and Anita launch their t-shirt line and modeling careers respectively as well as consult Denise on her bridal look for her upcoming wedding! This weekend I am so EXCITED to be working with Jeffrey Paul, who is known for creating Frida Pinto's glamourous looks during the 2009 awards seasons, on a photo shoot. Last weekend I trekked out to the Mojave desert with Ethan Rains of General Hospital and Saye Yabandeh to film the drama, Assassins. A little reminiscent of Mr. and Mrs. Smith but with a very interesting twist. I have to give it to the amazing crew and the actors who ran around with HUGE swords and guns in over 110 degree weather. I can't wait to see the finished product, I think it is going to turn out amazing!!

Last weekend I had the opportunity to work on the Facade movie set. I love the atmosphere and energy of short films. Through working on them I have been able to meet the most wonderful and fascinating of people. The film was about a female poker player who has finally met her match in an older male poker player, so I was able to use some special effects magic to make Scott appear older than he really is. A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of working on a promotional photo shoot for Ent Bliss. I spent hour after hour doing makeup on some of the coolest people I have ever met. Everyone was there to have a good time and to take some amazing pictures. After looking at the thousands of pictures (I'm not kidding...THOUSANDS!!), I picked out some of my favorite to share with you all!

Utterly Engaged Launch Party

Last night my sister and I attended the Utterly Engaged launch party at the Tranquil Tea Lounge in Fullerton, CA. It was the first "networking" type event that I have done in the bridal industry. As soon as I walked in to the absolutely adorable tea lounge, I recognized one of the photographers that was documenting the party. We went on Semester At Sea together and I remember him taking the most breathtaking photos as we travelled the world. His name is Brandon and you most definitely should check out his amazing photography. Among other really interesting people at the event, I was lucky to have my sister introduce me to Vivian Tran of All Made Up Team. She is an incredible makeup artist and her work is quite inspirational for me. The event was a success and I am adjusting to the fact that handing out business cards is THE thing to do. (yay! i now have business cards! and they're cute too.) But, I have found out that networking isn't SO bad if prosciutto wrapped asparagus and cannolis are involved! :)

Wait...is that REAL?!

Frostbite, Third Degree Burn, Rotten Skin...Whatever the grossest thing your imagination can come up with, I can recreate it. Before I learned all of the tricks behind the trade, I always wondered how someone could create the illusion of these awesome effects without having to cut off any actual appendages. The look is complicated but the theory is easy. You would be quite surprised how you could create these effects with products out of your own home!

Amy of The Relentless Bride had contacted me after she saw that my sister had twittered about my graduation from Studio Makeup Academy. (Follow me!) After corresponding by numerous emails and texts I was so thrilled to finally meet her in "real life." She is just about the cutest thing ever and I was excited to follow her and Larry on their engagement shoot to the sunny fields of Calabasas and the gorgeous beaches of Malibu (even though it was freezzzzzing!) Amy was going for a "naturally dramatic" look and I believe that the final result was fantastic! You can check out more of the photos HERE!!

A Clockwork Orange

For my final project at Studio Makeup Academy, I had my lovely sister Jordana of Hazelnut Photography come and sit for me. After much deliberation on what to create, I decided to let a movie (A Clockwork Orange) that I had recently watched, inspire me. I call this my my modernized yet extremely feminized version of Malcom McDowell's famous character, Alex. I think it came out quite well, don't you think?
